Jenn. Just Jenn. No last name, not on the internet anyway.
How did you end up in China?
It's sort of a winding road kind of story. In short, I was a Spanish major who got bored studying Spanish and wanted the challenge of a new language, so I chose Mandarin Chinese. I spent a month of my senior year of college in China, and wanted to see more. As graduation got closer, I felt the call to go back for what I thought would be a year or two.
What did/do you do in China?
My first school year in China, 2006-2007, I taught English at a small private college in Changchun in northeast of China. I fell in love with China, teaching and my students.
My second year in China, 2007-2008, I studied Mandarin in Changsha, Hunan province, in southern China. I fell in love with the language and spicy food.
I've now been teaching at a normal university in Hengyang, Hunan province since 2009. I have yet to discover what I'll fall in love with.
Where do you live in China?
I live in Hunan province, which is the province in green on the map.

What's the weather like in China?
What's the weather like in America? Depends on where you're asking about, right? Well, same in China. The weather in Hunan is humid and damp. Summers are sweltering and winters are bone chillingly cold. And I love it.
Why China?
Why not? From my childhood, I was drawn to all things Asian. During my time in China I developed a love for the country and its people. I plan to be there as long as I'm called and able.
Will you stay there forever?
I'm open to the idea, but I don't get to decide that. Right now, I plan to be there as long as I'm called and able. Either way, as a teacher, I have the opportunity to come home at the end of each school year, so I'll be back in America regularly.
Does Chinese food taste different there?
Yes. It's much much better.
How can I get in touch with you?
